ing down to peak through the hole. "Get back," D.J. hissed. "Are you nuts?"
"I hardly think I'm in any danger, dear, since I'm already dead." The angel continued to squint through the hole.
"Who's in there?"
"I can't see anyone, though the room is a mess." She tensed and took a step closer to the door. "Oh, there, someone just moved toward the window. Too dark to see who it is." She turned her head to look at D.J. "What are we going to do now?"
"I don't suppose you want to go in and bonk the guy on the head to avoid danger to my person?"
Josie tilted her head to the side, as though considering the question. "I'd like to, dear. But I'm afraid my options on earth are somewhat limited. Imminent danger is one of the requirements for that type of help."
"Figures," D.J. muttered. "Well, in that case, I guess I'd better sit tight until the cavalry arrives. The guy's cornered."
"D.J.?" McCall's voice came from the end of the hallway. She jerked her head in his direction. He stood, silhouetted at the end of the hall. As she glanced his way, he began to walk toward her. Panic filled her chest, closing off her air. She shook her head and waved for him to go back the way he'd come.
"I heard a weird noise in here. Kind of like a gunshot. Is everything all right?" He continued to advance, despite her frantic waving.
"You'd better do something, dear."
"Back off," D.J. snapped to both the angel and
